About

From the Founder

Most beautiful things are given knowing they will not last. I wanted to make something that would.

GU began with a question someone once asked me — why we give fresh flowers, when a flower is the first thing to wilt. It was said lightly. It stayed with me far longer than it should have.

The flowers were never the point. The feeling behind them was. And a feeling that real — a promise, a memory, a devotion — deserved to be held in something slower than a petal. Something of gold and stone. Something kept.

I came to this work through eight years in the high-jewellery trade, and a GIA-trained eye for stones. For much of it, I worked inside the noise of the industry — the vitrines, the volume, the speed. In time, I chose to step away from all of it, and to make far less, far more carefully.

So GU is a private atelier, and it stays one by choice. I work with one person at a time. Each piece begins in conversation — a story I am trusted to hold — then it is drawn, sculpted, and set in answer to that story alone.

What I believe is quiet, and simple. A piece worth keeping for a lifetime is not chosen quickly, and never made loudly. It is shaped slowly, by hand, in answer to a story. If you have one you would like to keep, I would be glad to help you give it form.
